Date 04/14/99 Dear Friends of GSGH, Best wishes from everyone here in La Romana! We are working as hard as ever to help the people in the bateys who continue to try to recover from the effects of Hurricane Georges. We appreciate all of the help that you and your church have given to us. Right now one of our biggest wishes is to start a birth control program for the women in the bateys. As you know, so many of the women here have lots of children. They often cannot feed the ones they have but still keep having more. We wish to provide them with different choices of birth control. What we would like to offer would be the following: 1) THE PILL (cost 25 Pesos every month, 300 a year) 2) CONDOMS (cost 5 pesos each) 3) DEPO-PROVERA (cost 100 pesos per 3 month supply) 4)DIU (cost 450 pesos 5 for years - the most prefered) 5)NORPLANT (cost 2,000 for 10 years) However you could help us with this project would be wonderful.
